Join all of your MVSC friends at the 2010 Annual MVSC Membership Picnic on Saturday, September 18th, 2010.

Start Time: 2:00 PM

Cost: Member – Annual Dues of $30 plus one side dish ($5 surcharge without a side dish).  Please note that the event site does not have electricity.  If you are bringing a hot dish, you might want to look into a sterno.

Kids under 16 are free. Ages 16-20 are $5 and Guests (21+) are $10.  If a guest brings a side dish we will knock off $5.

Food and Beverage: Hamburgers and Hot-Dogs will be served around 4:00 PM.  There will also be Beer (2 types), Wine, Soda and Water.  This is also a pot-luck event, so there will be plenty of food. Come hungry!

Volunteers: All members are required to volunteer at 3 events per year (via section 4B of our bylaws).  This is an easy one, so why not help out?  We are looking for people to help set up (show up an hour early), run sign-in with Janice or help clean-up afterwards (stay an extra 30 minutes).  Please call Tina Sauers 412-443-7817 if you are able to volunteer.

Games: The area around the shelter is grassy, so make sure to bring your outdoor games.

Mountain Bike Ride: Boyce Park has some of the best mountain bike trails in Southwest Pennsylvania.  Take advantage of these trails with Mark “the Shark” Sauers at a pre-picnic MVSC mountain bike ride.  Mark plans to leave the picnic site around noon and go for an easy ride.  If you are interested, give him a call at 412-559-4731.

The ski club is not providing any food due to the overwhelming response from last year.  We will be providing a keg of beer and champagne.  Feel free to bring your favorite bottle of champagne or liquor.

Live Music will start around 7PM.  The band this year is Regular Joes out of South Park, PA.

PARKING – As of now, there are two options for parking.  You can eithor park outside the gate in the visitor parking and walk into the complex or you can park down at 7springs and ride the bus up to Southwind.  Please note that there is limited visitor parking at Southwind and that most of us will be going to the Matterhorn at 7springs afterwards anyways (so take the bus).  You should plan for this when you are deciding what dish you are going to bring.

MVSC Events on Saturday, March 20, 2010

Registration for the events will be in the lodge starting at 9 am. The events for Saturday will be at the Froggy Bowl.  (Volunteers please report to the lodge at 9 am)

• Snoopy Race will start at 11:00 am
• Saucer Race will start at 1:00 pm
• Tubing will start at 2:00 pm

There is a race fee of $4 for each event or $10 for all three events. Trophies will be awarded immediately following each race.

All events and demonstrations will take place in the Wagner Beginner Bowl.

We still need volunteers to work the registration table from 10:30-12:00 and 12:00-1:30.  It’s really easy (last year they even moved it to the goggle deck later in the day) and it is one of the last events to work for the year to get your membership credit.  Please call Jess Steinour at 412-841-3177 if you are interested.

UPDATE: The NASTAR Tailgate will be Saturday, February 27th at 1:30pm in the North Face Parking Lot.  All MVSC members are invited to join in the fun.

The teams have been selected and the registration is closed.  There are five (5) Teams, as there were five (5) Platinum recipients, and a total of 31 MVSC racers. Each Team began with a Platinum Medal recipient, then each Team received three (3) Gold Medal recipients, then Silver, then Bronze, then Participant (racer who did not Medal) .

Scoring:
Platinum= 5pts
Gold= 4pts
Silver= 3pts
Bronze= 2pts
Participation= 1pt

There are four (4) weeks of Participation. The three (3) best of the four (4) possible Medal scores will be counted for each racer. And the Team with the Highest Total will be the Winner.

All are invited to participate in the MVSC NASTAR Team Compeition. Race the NASTAR course every weekend in February. A weekend constitutes either racing on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday(when open). Your BEST MEDAL will be counted toward your team score. Teams will be posted when picked, and balanced based on performance.

Scores should be posted shortly after each weekend is completed.

Even though it is an awesome photo, John is about 30 years too late.  Mt Washington is already claimed by MVSC’s Howard Engelberg.  Back on 1978, Howard went down Mt Washington under the Duquesne Incline.  According to the article, this treacherous path is filled with broken glass, sharp vines and a 15 foot cliff drop.  Luckly for Howard, it was also filled with two feet of fresh pow.  Check out a PDF of the article below for the full story.  It’s an great read.
