This will be a POT LUCK AND BYOB EVENT!!  This is your chance to bring your favorite comfort food, dessert, salad or appetizer to share. Irish dish if you wish!!

Mon Valley goes skiing at Laurel Mountain  in 2026! Yes, it’s true! Ski or board with us then join us for a hot chocolate or hot tea of your choice in the Laurel Mountain ski lodge on Sunday January 25, 2026. Look for our friends and MVSC banner and drop by for some conversation and skiing/boarding!

Not a skier or boarder? Come join us for some hot drinks and good conversation starting at 11:00am!

We’re “doing it differently” this year. You go buy your hot chocolate, tea or whatever. We’ll give you one $5 cash reimbursement per person.

Restrictions:

·         Come join us. We’ll give you $5 per dues-paid club member

·         Lift tickets are not part of this program

Note: We’ll also be doing a day trip to Hidden Valley later in the season!

Come out to “Snowshoe or Hike” (weather dependent) at Highlands Golf Club located at Seven Springs. Our group will meet inside the Tee Top Dinning/Bar Area at 10:00am, we will start our hike or walk at 10:30am. This will be an “moderate” hike. I’ve shortened and illuminated the steep areas of this hike.

Our group will return to Tee Top from where we started around 11:30am, there we can enjoy refreshments and light appetizers of your choosing and watch the scheduled football game the local network plans to broadcast that day.

The meeting will take place on January 10, 2026 in the Fox Den, 7 Springs Mountain Resort, 777 Waterwheel Drive, Champion, PA.  Registration and mingling at 5:00 PM. food served at 6:00 PM. Meeting 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.  Members cost is $0, Guest welcome to come, cost of $15.00.

We will be conducting our monthly business, while kicking off the New Year discussing many of our past events and upcoming new business for the 2026 Ski Season.

You will want to come and meet the many new members that have joined the club and hear all about the activities planned for 2026.  Come hear what is happening and suggestions as to what you would like to see us get involved with are welcome.

We have some “Day Ski Trips” planned to local resorts and need your input on making them good for you.  We also will talk about the big ski trips planned for the near future with those that are signed up and ideas and trips tentatively planned for 2027.  Your input and ideas are welcome!

Back by popular demand! Join us for a fun night of bowling at the Wicked Googly with your fellow MVSC club members. We have lanes reserved for up to 28 bowlers.

The cost is $10 per member/bowler and $20 for non-members. This gets you 2 hours of bowling, free rental of the stylish bowling shoes they have, along with pizza and soft drinks!

There is a full-service bar with very reasonably priced drinks and a full menu if you would like to purchase additional food.

They also have live bands every Saturday night starting at 9:00 – so if you want to make a ‘night of it’ you can stick around to enjoy the music.

Hello Mon Valley Ski Club and Friends!!  Saturday, October 11, 2025, our Mon Valley Ghosts, Ghouls, and Goblins will be descending earlier than normal at the Highlands Hall & Banquet Center, 288 State Route 711, Jones Mills, PA 15646 for our October Membership Meeting. Registration will start at 5:00 PM with a BYOB & mixers social  til 6:00pm.   Come join us for a club-provided bite to eat at 6:00pm as we update you on the upcoming events and trips.

Dinner is FREE to members and $15.00 for non-members. Club President Dan Porter will conduct a short meeting at 7:00pm.  We’ll continue collecting $40 for dues and register volunteers for the upcoming Willis/MVSC Ski Swap sale.  (Date TBD). Dan will review and answer questions regarding upcoming activities and events. Please join us for a fun night of enjoyment!!

ATTENTION All Mon Valley Ski Club Members it is time to kick off our First Official Membership Meeting of Calendar Year 2025-2026!! Please come and join us at the Bear Rocks Community Club located at 161 Big Springs Road, Acme, PA 15610, Saturday, September 6, 2025. The menu will consist of pizza, wings, salads and dessert.  Cost of the event will be $0 for Members and $15 for guests. Registration will start at 5 PM.  There will be a cash bar with very reasonable drinks beginning at 5PM, 6 PM dinner and the Membership meeting following dinner.

 We will be discussing upcoming events and activities, going over the budget and answer any questions and introduce our current Board Members.  We are all open to suggestions, new ideas and wish to welcome you all to the club.

The MVSC bicyclists are hitting the trails a few times this summer! Our first event will be a combined bicycle ride followed by a picnic at the Viscontis.

The ride will begin at noon on Sunday May 26, 2024 starting at the Rockwood GAP Trailhead. There will be two distinct groups:

• Beginner’s ride Rockwood to Garrett (14 miles or less roundtrip)

• Advanced rides Rockwood to Meyersdale (24 miles or less roundtrip)

The Mon Valley “Duffers” head to the links for our first golf outing of the season! This event is for everyone from non-golfers to almost good golfers and everyone in between! 

It will be held at Luke’s Links, the 9-hole course at the Norvelt Golf Club in Mt. Pleasant, Pa on Saturday May 18th at Noon. This will be a purely social event with no prizes….just a lot of laughs!

Please join your Mon Valley Ski Club Friends at the Highlands Hall Banquet Center PA Route 31, Jones Mills, PA 15646 (across from Sarnellis), Saturday, May 3, 2025 (3:00pm – 8:00pm) to watch the 2025 Kentucky Derby.  Bring a covered dish per couple and some $5 bills as we spend the afternoon and early evening picnicking and watching the 151st Kentucky Derby.  The BYOB social will start at 3:00pm, snacks will be provided; dinner will be served at 5:00pm. The race will take place at 6:45pm.

·     “JUST FOR FUN” bring a few $5 bills to bet on some ponies. All funds will be
distributed to winners

·     Ladies and Gentlemen dress up and wear your favorite Derby Hat!!

IT’S ELECTION TIME!!

Our annual Election Meeting will be held at Highland Hall & Banquet Center, PA-31, Jones Mills, PA 15646 (across from Sarnelli’s Market). We would love to have all members attend so that you may have an opportunity to either run for an officer role and/or cast your vote for the upcoming year 2025-2026. As you know, we have elections each year and positions available.

If anyone is interested in Conducting and being the Election Chair or interested in any of the positions please contact or submit your name to President, Dan Porter with your questions. Dan can be contacted by calling or texting him at (412)303-5213. Elections shall be by secret Ballot. Please submit your name no later than Friday, April 25, 2025 so we can prepare for the meeting.

Hey Tailgaters!

The next event on our busy Mon Valley calendar will be the “President’s Tailgate”.

We’re saying “Thank You” and “Goodbye” to the Winter (and it was a good one!) and “Hello” to the Spring and Summer as we prepare to enjoy them with all of our MVSC friends

We’ll kick it off with this tailgate event at my house Sunday March 23rd from Noon - 4:00pm with our hamburgers, hot dogs etc! We'll hope for Bobby's chili but only if the “spirits” move him (Spirits are normally Canadian Club!)! Feel free to bring something at your leisure. But be sure to come!
